It's Not Just for Nerds - (Promise!)

Technology. It is a word that can make the strongest heart skip a beat. But let’s get one thing straight: you don’t have to be a computer science PhD holder in order to survive in this digital era. Actually, technology has made everybody’s life easier; from a four-year-old child to your great-grandmother.

I’m going to break it down for you.

Grandma Gets Techie: Yeah, she’d rather knit than code, but some tech can sweeten her life. Want to keep in touch with distant relatives? Video chatting is like having a tea party right through the screen. Worried that she’ll miss viewing her favorite program on TV? Streaming services are hers new BFFs. And Oh! Those days of online purchase are gone- no more fighting against crowds for that ideal sweater.

Toddlers and tablets: This might seem weird, but teaching children about technology at an early stage could actually help them later on. Educational apps can teach kids everything, from colors to numbers. Giving a child a tablet can also buy mom or dad several minutes of peace and quiet.

Digital death: Even funeral homes (which are usually very gloomy) have adapted technological approaches as well. Posting obituaries online makes it easy for people to share memories of the deceased and express condolences as well as mourners who do not live nearby physically attending virtual memorials outpouring their respects from any part of the globe. And what about those digital urns used in cremation – even ashes have become high-tech!

The Invisible Technology: The technology is ubiquitous, even in surprising places. Drones are flown by farmers to check on their crops. Artificial intelligence tools can also be deployed by physicians to validate illness. In addition, the local baker’s shop could be using software for order management and stock control.

When you are stressed out by the constant tech news flow, just remember this: it’s a tool not a tyrant. It will help you have better life, easy and more connected one. So, whether knitting needle or the video game controller just try it out. Maybe you find out that you really like it.

What do you think about tech? Tell us in the comments below your favorite (or most frustrating) experiences with technology.

Very insightful post. I certainly agree with you! I can not imagine what the world would be like without technology. You rightfully noted that technology can be used by toddlers and the elderly. I am even of the opinion that we don't necessarily have to teach toddlers to use our phones or tablets. They learn on their own and at a rapid pace! I love how we continue to innovate with technology! My only question is whether too much technology use can have a negative result on us?

Technology is definitely the way to go. This post was well written and very informative. Thanks for causing me to think about how technology affects the lives of everyone and not just our own. We should all embrace technology and do all we can to become computer literate.
